Sharp Copiers in New Jersey: Lease Terms, Service Costs and What to Check Before You Renew

Sharp refreshed its A3 line in late 2025, and in New Jersey it also sells direct, not only through dealers.

Where the money actually goes on a Sharp

On Sharp’s BP-70C and BP-71C spec sheets the A3 color engine is a dual-component design, so on Sharp’s own supplies list the toner cartridge, the developer and the drum are three separate line items — the cartridge carries no imaging drum with it. Base machines ship with black and color developer included, and developer and drums are then replaced on their own schedules afterwards. Because the base machine includes developer while drums and developer are ordered separately from toner, the question on a Sharp quote is which of those three the click rate covers and which get billed as parts. One further detail is published for the 55 and 65 ppm color models specifically: a toner cartridge can be changed on those without stopping the job in progress.

What to check on a Sharp agreement

Several things that read like software on a Sharp quote are separately ordered items on Sharp’s spec sheet: the Application Integration Module, the Data Security Kit, the Virus Detection Kit, the Bar Code Font Kit and the Direct Print Expansion Kit. The sheet names them without saying what each one enables, so make the dealer state which one covers the capability you are being shown. The generation change moved things too: on the current BP-71C sheet wireless LAN is an option requiring an adapter, where the previous BP-70C sheet carried 802.11 in the standard interface line. Searchable PDF and scan to Office formats appear under image formats on the current sheet, but that row carries a footnote saying some features require optional equipment — so treat it as a question rather than an inclusion.

What this line suits

A like-for-like replacement is where this line needs the most care: the BP-71C55/65 sheet specifies a 20-amp receptacle where the BP-70C31/36/45 sheet specifies 15 amps, so the same spot on the same floor can need different electrical for the newer machine. Beyond that, heavy stock to 110 lb cover from the bypass tray and output to 12 x 18 make it a fit for an office running mixed media off one device — though the standard drawer is specified narrower, at 20 to 24 lb bond, so drawer weight is worth confirming on the quote rather than inferring from the range.

Model families you are likely to see quoted:

  • BP-71C / BP-61C / BP-51C (current A3 color)
  • BP-71M / BP-51M (current A3 mono)
  • BP-70C / BP-60C / BP-50C and BP-70M / BP-50M (previous generation)
  • BP-80C80 / BP-80C70 (top of the A3 color range)

Worth knowing about Sharp right now

Sharp announced a new A3 BP Series on October 9, 2025 covering 26 to 65 ppm, and its US spec sheet for the BP-71C55/71C65 is dated April 2026 — so a current quote can land on either generation, and the two are separated by a single digit in the model number (BP-70C45 versus BP-71C45), which is easy to misread on a schedule. Sharp Business Systems is Sharp’s own direct sales division, headquartered at 100 Paragon Drive in Montvale, New Jersey, and it expanded its direct footprint in the state in January 2020 by acquiring the assets of ACE Office Solutions in Hillsborough. In New Jersey specifically, that means a Sharp quote may come from Sharp itself or from an independent Sharp dealer — same machine, different service organization behind the contract.

Send me the agreement and I’ll tell you which of this actually applies to your machine and what the numbers should be. That’s free, and it doesn’t depend on whether you end up buying anything from me.
