Canon Copiers in New Jersey: Lease Terms, Service Costs and What to Check Before You Renew

Canon is mid-transition from imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX to imageFORCE, so check which generation a quote actually puts on your floor.

Where the money actually goes on a Canon

Canon’s service documentation splits the running cost into two lists, and that split is the thing to read. One list is labeled Consumables. On the A3 imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX line, and on the imageFORCE C5100 and C3100 series, it carries a drum unit with its own part number, separate from the toner cartridge rather than built into it. That is not uniform across the range — the imageFORCE C611 series manual lists toner and staples as its only consumables and no separate drum unit — so the series a quote names changes what the drum is and who is expected to supply it. The second list is labeled Consumable Parts on the imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX manuals and simply Parts on the imageFORCE ones: waste toner container, fixing assembly, secondary transfer roller, intermediate transfer belt unit, ADF maintenance kit — items the manual routes to a dealer or service representative rather than to the person standing at the machine. Canon’s Auto Toner Replenishment ships toner off the embedded imageWARE Remote communication system, provided the machine is networked and connected to a data collection agent, but Canon’s stated condition is that the toner itself is included only where the machine sits under a supply-inclusive maintenance agreement.

What to check on a Canon agreement

Because Canon splits consumables from parts on two separate lists, ask the agreement to name which of them the click charge covers — a supplies-inclusive click that covers toner and drum is not the same document as one that also covers the fixing assembly, transfer roller, ITB unit and ADF maintenance kit. The other clause to read is software: scan-workflow and secure-release applets run on Canon’s MEAP platform and are installed on the machine as their own license files, managed from the device’s Service Management Service screen rather than bundled into the hardware, so check whether that license sits inside the quoted payment and what happens to it at renewal. The toner and drum consumables also carry different designations by region — GPR numbers in North America where other markets use C-EXV or NPG — which matters if anyone is cross-checking a supply line against a listing found online. The parts codes do not change that way, so a fixing assembly or ITB unit number should read the same wherever the listing came from.

What this line suits

A mixed-size fleet that has to be administered as one thing. The imageFORCE consolidation put the A3 devices and the desktop units under a single brand, so the panel, the address book and the scan destinations are one set of habits to teach rather than two — which matters more in an office running a floor-standing device plus several desktops than in one running a single machine.

Model families you are likely to see quoted:

  • imageFORCE C5100 Series
  • imageFORCE C3100 Series
  • imageFORCE C611 Series
  • imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX (being replaced series by series)

Worth knowing about Canon right now

Canon has been consolidating its office lineup under the imageFORCE brand since 2025, replacing the imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX and imageCLASS X families series by series — so check which generation a quote actually puts on your floor, and whether you are being offered a line that is being superseded. Two channel facts matter in New Jersey: Canon reaches buyers both through independent authorized dealers and directly through Canon Solutions America branches in this state; and Canon Financial Services may hold the lease rather than the dealer. Which channel the quote came through decides who your counterparty is at renewal.

Send me the agreement and I’ll tell you which of this actually applies to your machine and what the numbers should be. That’s free, and it doesn’t depend on whether you end up buying anything from me.
