What offices in Paramus are actually printing
The commercial base here leans toward retail head offices, accounting, dental and medical practices and insurance, concentrated around Route 4, Route 17 and Garden State Plaza area.
Mostly smaller A4 and light A3 fleets where the monthly payment is small enough that nobody scrutinises the click charges. That is precisely where a mis-sized color allowance quietly does the most damage over five years.
Paramus is not the Bergen County seat, but the county put much of its institutional plant here. Bergen New Bridge Medical Center on East Ridgewood Avenue is the largest hospital in New Jersey and the fourth largest publicly owned hospital in the country, running acute and long-term care with a nursing home and a mental health facility on one campus. Bergen Community College on Paramus Road is the state’s largest community college. The Bergen County Special Services School District, which serves classified students aged three to twenty-one from across the county, has shared an administration and a Farview Avenue address with the county technical district since 1995, and that district’s Paramus campus is on Pascack Road. The retail the borough is famous for is strung along two highways rather than gathered in one place: Garden State Plaza at the Route 4 and 17 junction, Bergen Town Center on Route 4, and Paramus Park, the Fashion Center and the new-car dealership row up Route 17. There is no passenger rail station and no walkable downtown, and the borough code still bars worldly employment on Sunday, so the ordinary working week here is six days long.
The documents this market actually produces
The county special services district runs on individualized education programs, evaluation reports and re-evaluations, long mono documents with statutory deadlines and a legal obligation to put a copy in the parents' hands; the technical district sharing that administration adds a vocational and academy load on the same calendar. A hospital running acute care, behavioral health and long-term care on one campus produces charts, consents and discharge packets on a seven-day cycle that almost nothing else in this town keeps. The dealerships build a deal jacket per car, finance contracts, New Jersey MVC title and registration forms, and scans of identity and bank documents, and that work stops dead on Sunday under the statewide ban on Sunday vehicle sales, so Monday opens with a backlog. A college of that size spikes hard at registration, financial aid and transcript season and goes quiet between terms.
What has to be true of the machine here
The regime that reaches furthest here is the one attached to the dealerships. A car dealer is a financial institution under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, so the FTC Safeguards Rule at 16 CFR Part 314 has required encryption of customer information at rest and secure disposal since June 2023, and that reaches the internal drive of any machine used to scan a deal jacket. On the school side, FERPA covers the districts' student records and IDEA adds its own handling and parent-copy rules for special education files. The public buyers advertise and award to the lowest responsible bidder above their statutory threshold and take quotes below it, and either way they can often reach equipment through an existing state or cooperative contract, which is the more useful question to ask first.
What that means for specifying one
One specification will not cover this borough. The hospital campus needs duty-cycle headroom sized for a seven-day operation, release control on shared floors, and a written commitment on the drive at end of term. The districts need mono volume with booklet finishing for evaluation and IEP packets against a deadline calendar. The dealerships need scan-first devices whose stored images are encrypted and provably wiped, because that is where the Safeguards Rule actually lands. Color matters least where the volume is highest. And because there is no rail and every address is a turn off Route 4 or Route 17, I would write service response against highway traffic rather than map mileage, and draft the college and district requirements as bid specifications rather than settle them in a meeting.
